River Ouse (Sussex)

River Ouse (Sussex)

Returning the waterway to its natural state rather than preserving the navigation is the current attitude in the area, giving no recognition to the many benefits that the navigation has brought to the area for well over 200 years. ‘Legal Rights for the River’ are being developed by local pressure groups and Lewes District Council, but the right for the river to retain its industrial archaeological heritage will not be one of them.

Isfield Lock on the Sutton Hall Estate and its immediate surroundings are looking smart and tidy and will be kept this way by the Sussex Ouse Restoration Trust. Development work on information boards continues.
