Llangollen Canal - Whitchurch Arm

Llangollen Canal - Whitchurch Arm

The Whitchurch Waterway Trust owns and maintains the Whitchurch Canal Arm and provides free 48-hour visitor moorings. The already-restored part of the arm currently ends at Chemistry Bridge, which is 0.7 miles from Whitchurch town centre. Nearly all the canal’s original line from this bridge into town has been built over. The trust plans to build a short extension terminating in a new basin, which will bring the canal through Chemistry Bridge and as far towards the town as is possible without changing levels. The first stage of the project, involving some land levelling, creation of new paths, interpretation boards and a picnic area, was carried out with funding for tourism from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The trust continues to seek funding to complete the extension and to look for ways in which progress can be made prior to obtaining full grant funding. More information and illustrations of the new basin can be found at whitchurchwaterway.uk
