Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal

Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal

The Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal Society aims to help to restore the canal to navigation; the first length in Salford was reopened in 2008. It also maintains much of the rest of the canal and its towpath. It continues to liaise with CRT and the three local authorities and has resumed monthly weekend working parties. Substantial lengths of canal and towpath have been improved. The society continues to concentrate its efforts to enhance the canal at Nob End, including the Prestolee lock flight and the start of the Bolton Arm. The developer, Watson Homes, is starting to repair the breach near Nob End (which happened in 1936), and this will make the canal navigable once again from Little Lever to Radcliffe.
